Flat Rock, Indiana Building here since 2014
It's the first question every homeowner asks, and it's the one most contractors won't answer until the invoice shows up. We put it in writing first: a free, itemized quote, line by line, before a single nail goes in. Roofing, siding, decks, additions and full remodels across Decatur, Shelby, Bartholomew & Rush County.
Three boxes. Usually the same day. He'll set up a free look at the job, then put a real number in writing.
What we do
Most contractors hand off half the job. We frame it, roof it, side it, trim it and clean up after ourselves, so there's one number to call when you have a question, and one company standing behind it.

Full tear-offs, re-roofs, repairs and storm damage. Shingle, metal and flat systems.

New siding that fixes what's underneath it, not just what you can see from the road.

Demo, rebuild and rail installation, engineered to hold up to Indiana winters.

Structural work most remodelers won't touch: new openings, stairs, load-bearing changes.

Drywall, trim, doors, flooring and paint, finished to a standard you'd expect in a new build.

Top-to-bottom renovations and commercial buildouts, managed by the man who bids them.
Free advice, no strings
Including ours. These are the three things that separate a quote you can trust from a number that quietly grows by 30% halfway through the job.
A single lump sum hides where your money goes. Ask for materials, labor, tear-off, disposal and permits broken out separately. If a contractor won't break it down, it's usually because the number isn't built on anything yet.
Plenty of companies sell the job and then hire whichever crew is free that morning. Ask who runs the site, whether they'll be there the whole job, and who you call when something's wrong at 4 p.m. on a Friday.
Rot, bad framing and old water damage show up on real jobs. The question isn't if. It's how it gets priced. Get the change-order process in writing before demo day, not after.

How it works
You'll know the price, the schedule and who's showing up before you commit to anything.
You get Danny, the owner. Not a call center, not a salesman on commission.
We measure, photograph and talk through your options honestly, including the cheaper one.
Usually within 24-48 hours. Line by line, so you can compare it to anyone else's.
Same crew start to finish, site cleaned daily, and a final walk-through before you pay the balance.
Why Marcum
Marcum Construction has been building in and around Flat Rock, Indiana since 2014. Danny Marcum owns the company, prices the work and shows up to do it. That's not a marketing line. It's the whole business model.
Don't take our word for it
When we quote your job, ask for references. We'll hand you names, addresses and phone numbers of recent customers in your county. Go look at the roof, walk the deck, ask them anything you want about how we left the site.
Very few contractors will do that. It's the fastest way to find out who's real.
Where we work
If you're within about 45 minutes of Flat Rock, Indiana, we'll come look at it, free. Not sure if you're in range? Call and ask.
Straight answers
No. On-site quotes are free, and there's no obligation attached to them. We'd rather walk away from a job that isn't a fit than talk you into one.
Anyone who gives you a firm number over the phone without seeing the property is guessing, and that guess usually goes up later. Price depends on square footage, pitch, what's under the existing surface, material choice and access. We'll come out, measure, and put a real itemized number in writing, normally within 24-48 hours.
Yes. You'll get a certificate of insurance before work begins. Ask for it, and ask every other contractor bidding your job for theirs too.
We do. We'll document the damage with photos and measurements and work directly with your adjuster so the scope on paper matches the work that actually needs doing.
It depends on the season and the size of the job. Spring and fall book out fastest. Repairs and small jobs often get squeezed in within a couple of weeks. We'll give you a real date, not a "we'll see."
Both. Plenty of our repeat customers started with a leaking roof valley or one rotten deck board. Call and ask. If it's not something we should be doing, we'll tell you who is.
No. Larger projects are broken into a deposit for materials and progress payments tied to work actually completed, with the final balance due after your walk-through. It's all spelled out on the quote before you sign anything.
